Civil Rights & Transparency Clinic Summer Student Associate

Post by Clinics »

Join us as a Summer Associate! Civil Rights & Transparency Clinic

WE LITIGATE FOR THE PUBLIC INTEREST: We are a litigation clinic focused on protecting and expanding civil rights and transparent government. Our mission:
  • Civil Rights & Liberties: We advance justice by protecting individual civil rights and civil liberties, through litigation and broader “movement lawyering” advocacy
  • Transparency: We press for more transparency in government, which is essential to meaningful public accountability and democratic oversight
JOB DESCRIPTION: We’re hiring two summer student attorneys (summer associates) to work directly with our Clinic Director and Assistant Director on litigation and non-litigation advocacy. These positions are full-time (40 hours) positions compensated at $15.00/hour and will serve as certified student attorneys under the Clinical Legal Education Program Practice Order. These positions are sure to gain valuable, hands-on litigation experience. The duties and expectations of the position are:
  • Provide litigation case coverage
  • Review and prepare legal documents, such as client correspondence, discovery, legal research, legal memoranda, etc.
  • Create, update, and maintain case files according to clinic protocol;
  • Conduct potential client intake interviews
  • Make court appearances under the student practice rules in state or federal court or another tribunal
  • Engage in related activities like planning know-your-rights community education or policy research.
WHY WORK WITH US? Our Clinic is designed for you to grow into the attorney you want to be. It offers practical, hands-on experience under the supportive supervision of clinical professors. You can expect to develop critical lawyering skills to become practice-ready. These are skills that are increasingly on the bar exam. You will work on cutting-edge legal issues and make a positive difference in the public interest. You will walk away with more confidence, a sense of your lawyering identity, and skills an employer will value.

We strongly encourage students from underrepresented backgrounds to apply. Interviews will begin as soon as possible and will continue until the positions are filled.

In order to be considered for the position, please apply in LOCK with your cover letter, resume, unofficial transcript and short writing sample (up to 10 pages).
