Western New York Law Center needs interns - Externship or Pro Bono

Post by Pro Bono »

The Western New York Law Center, Inc. is a not-for-profit corporation formed in 1996 after Congress restricted the types of cases that Legal Services Corporation (LSC) grantees could handle. The Center represents low-income Western New Yorkers in civil matters, emphasizing those areas restricted by LSC. As part of our work, we administer the Buffalo branch of CLARO, a consumer debt program that originated in New York City, in response to the overwhelming need for legal assistance to individuals being sued for subprime automobile loans, usurious credit agreements, student loans, and other consumer issues.

Student interns are responsible for research, interviewing clients, drafting motions for foreclosure defense cases and class action lawsuits, and arguing motions before City Court Judges under the student practice order for our CLARO clinic.

We are seeking a second or third year law student to be an extern or intern with our office for the upcoming semester. You can earn either course credit or pro bono hours through this internship. The law student selected will be required to dedicate their time at the CLARO clinic on Tuesday evenings from 5:00 pm – 7:30 pm and Friday mornings from 9:30 am – 12:30 pm. A commitment of 10 hours per week is required. This internship is for the 2019 spring semester, and may begin in the Bridge period.

If interested, please email a cover letter and resume to Paulette Campbell at pcampbell@wnylc.com.
