Registration now open for the 2022 Desmond Moot Court Competition

Post by AdvocacyInstitute »

The registration for the 2022 Charles S. Desmond Moot Court Competition is now open!

2Ls & 3Ls are invited to participate in UB's moot court competition scheduled for October 27-29, 2022. This intramural competition gives participants the opportunity to argue a case relating to an unsettled, timely, and important legal question.

The registration period runs from August 31st to September 12th. 2L & 3L students can sign up through the following link: https://www.law.buffalo.edu/beyond/comp ... ation.html

Signing up for Desmond does not require you to be enrolled in Appellate Advocacy. Any person who signs up without a team member will be assigned one. Awards are presented to the winning team, to the writers of the best brief, to the top oralist, and more!

Competing in the Desmond Competition makes you eligible to serve on the Buffalo Moot Court Board and help run the Wechsler National Criminal Moot Court Competition hosted by UB Law in the spring. You may also be considered for one of UB’s national moot court teams. It is invaluable experience in oral and written argument. Also, it satisfies one of the criteria for earning a Certificate in Advocacy, provides you with a writing sample and a resume credential, and will not prevent you from taking Appellate Advocacy next year.

Interested 1L’s can time keep for this year's competition. The time keepers will be in the room as the competitors complete their oral arguments and receive questions from the judges. By time keeping, you’ll be given invaluable experience on the nature of a moot court competition and have a better idea as to whether taking appellate advocacy or participating in Desmond as a 2L or 3L is right for you. If interested, please email law-bmcb@buffalo.edu.
