Apply for NY Bar Exam April 1 - 30 & important information on using laptop for exam

The July bar examination is New York will be given on Tuesday, July 30 and Wednesday, July 31, 2019.

The application period for the July 2019 bar exam opens on Monday, April 1, 2018 and closes at 11:59 pm on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. The “online application” link on the Board of Law Examiners web site will become live at 12 am on Monday, April 1st and remain live until 11:59 pm on April 30th.

The fee is $750 payable by MasterCard or Visa credit card.

IMPORTANT: If you want to use your Laptop computer on the bar exam, READ THIS:

“The laptop program allows you to use your personal laptop computer along with Board designated word processing security software to type your answers to MPT and MEE questions. When you apply for the examination, you must indicate whether you will participate in the laptop program. You must elect the laptop program during the application period. No one will be added to the laptop program after the application period closes. Shortly after the application period has ended, you will receive an email from our current laptop software vendor, ExamSoft Worldwide (barsupport@examsoft.com), with instructions for purchasing the software and registering your laptop. All subsequent laptop program communications will also be sent from ExamSoft. We strongly recommend that you add barsupport@examsoft.com to your contacts and safe senders list to assure you receive all laptop related email communications.

The homepage of the Board’s website will be updated when the dates and deadlines to register your laptop for a particular exam are determined. These deadlines are firm and cannot be waived or extended. Your failure to timely purchase the software and register your laptop will result in the cancellation of your laptop program registration, and you will be required to handwrite your exam answers. Failure to follow these procedures does not constitute good cause for crediting or refunding your bar examination application fee.

You can always opt out of using your laptop, but you can never opt in after this initial application. If you do not say “yes” to using the laptop program on the application, you will be writing your essays (MEE & MPT) on day one of the Bar Exam.
