Two Additional Weeks of UB Counseling Virtual Workshops

UB Counseling Services Virtual Outreach Workshops have added two additional weeks of virtual workshops to assist students. An updated scheduled is below.

Virtual Grief Support Group
UB Counseling Services
Thursdays 1:00-2:30 pm

This virtual support group is designed for students who have lost a loved one through death. The overall mission is to provide space, acceptance, and support for students to mourn the loss of their loved one and to acknowledge the many feelings associated with grief and loss. This semi-structured support group will provide information on unique and different styles of grieving, as well as challenges of grieving. This group will also provide a space to discuss helpful strategies to support each student in their unique grief journey. Please contact UB Counseling Services at 716-645-2720 and ask to speak to a counselor about joining the group.

Virtual Outreach Workshops
UB Counseling Services is facilitating virtual drop-in, outreach workshops that focus on providing psychoeducation and support. A variety of workshops are available Monday – Friday to meet the needs of undergraduate and graduate students and faculty and staff.
Psychoeducational workshops are intended to provide information, skills and support. These workshops are not a form of mental health treatment. If you would like to speak with a counselor, please call us at (716) 645-2720. In the event of a mental health emergency, please contact our office at (716) 645-2720, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM. After hours, please contact UB Police at (716) 645-2222 and ask to speak to the UB Counseling on-call counselor.
Virtual Workshops are offered through Zoom. Please download Zoom in advance. Please click on the link in each of the descriptions at the appointed time and you will be able to join the group. Return as many times as you like. No registration or RSVP is required. Connection and Compassion for International Students
This workshop is intended for international students. Over the past few months, there has been a multitude of changes nationally and internationally affecting schools, workplaces, and communities. This has led to an increased sense of social isolation and challenges for many students. This workshop will highlight unique challenges experienced by international students; introduce strategies and resources for coping, and ways to cultivate compassion and connection with others in this era of social distancing.

Creating Routine to Support Distance Learning

Helping Students Manage Stress During Distance Learning: How Faculty Can Support Their Students
This workshop will provide information for faculty and staff surrounding the impact of COVID-19 on students. Ways to recognize and assist students in emotional distress will be covered as well as the impact of overall stress. Strategies will be provided to support students during this time of transition, change and loss.

Recognizing the Impact: Supporting Communities of Color during times of Crisis
This workshop focuses on exploring the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on marginalized communities. This program will take an intersectional approach to identifying the various ways that these communities are uniquely affected by national crises. Additionally, facilitators will offer strategies for self/community care aimed at improving and maintaining mental wellness.
