Free Bar Exam Scholarship Program

Post by Academic Success »

If you are planning to take the bar examination for the first time in July of 2022, you are eligible to apply for one of 24 free comprehensive bar preparation courses to be awarded by UB School of Law this January through our newly-announced Bar Exam Scholarship Program.

Law school has taught you to think and communicate like a lawyer, and introduced you to much of the substantive law tested on the bar exam, but a bar preparation course is key to being fully prepared for the bar examination. A reliable and comprehensive bar preparation course is a significant investment, but an essential one. In cooperation with several major bar preparation companies (Helix, JD Advising, Kaplan, and Themis), UB School of Law aims to make sure that every summer bar examinee this year will have the benefit of a good quality bar preparation course. The bulk of course materials will be delivered over the summer, but all these providers offer early access to study materials starting in March or April, so you can enhance your study time.

In selecting recipients of these course scholarships, priority will be given to students who will most benefit, financially or otherwise, from receipt of a comprehensive bar preparation program at no charge to them. The scholarship application form, which can be accessed via LOCK at this link -- https://law-buffalo.12twenty.com/job-po ... 6701345301 -- is brief, and provides you with an opportunity to explain why you would benefit from a scholarship award. The more detail you can provide, the better. Relevant circumstances might include (but are not limited to):
  • You cannot afford to purchase a bar preparation course
  • You can only afford to purchase a course if you work over the summer when you should be studying for the bar
  • You would particularly benefit from starting your bar preparation well before graduation
More information about course content, resources, and timing will be shared over the next two weeks. The deadline for application will be December 30, 2021, and with exams and the holidays approaching, you should apply as soon as possible if you are interested. If you have any questions, please contact Professor MacDonald at wmacdona@buffalo.edu.

Now that exam period is coming to a close, it is time to start thinking ahead to the bar examination and how to prepare for it!

There is still time to apply for one of the *dozens* of scholarships for free comprehensive bar preparation programs that UB School of Law will be distributing in January to students preparing to take the bar examination for the first time in July 2022. These essential bar prep courses are an important tool for learning all of the detailed law needed for the bar exam.

Courses like these, from respected companies like BARBRI, Kaplan, Helix, Themis, and JD Advising, are well worth their cost -- but we know that cost can be a strain for some students. When you are studying for the bar exam -- during the first half of 2022, if you can, but definitely during the summer -- it can be a great help to have one less expense to worry about.

And statistics show that bar prep course completion is an extremely significant factor in bar exam success. Completing 90 percent or more of a good bar prep course is crucial, and starting your study early, before graduation, can give you a leg up on course completion. Students who are awarded a free bar prep course scholarship will have access to course materials early in 2022.

So if you think you need help with either time or finances, please apply for a bar prep course scholarship! You can find the application on LOCK and via this link: https://law-buffalo.12twenty.com/job-po ... 6701345301 . Apply by December 30! And contact Professor MacDonald at wmacdona@buffalo.edu if you have any questions.
