Spring 2023 Trial Team Information Session and Tryouts

Post by AdvocacyInstitute »

Are you interested in being on a Spring 2023 Trial Team?

If so, please complete THIS FORM no later than November 30, 2022:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIp ... g/viewform

Jane Kent will host an Informational Session on November 15, 2022 at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom: https://buffalo.zoom.us/j/93017576058?p ... tmUXpOUT09

If you have been on a trial team or if you have taken Trial Technique and your instructor recommends you for Trial Team, you will not need a formal "try out"/Zoom meeting with me. You will see the request for this information on the Form.

NOTE: Trial Team is a credit-bearing class called "Trial Advocacy," and it is by-invitation-only (3 credits per semester for up to 6 credit hours, however you are not required to register for credit to be on a trial team). If you make a trial team, you'll be notified of an enrollment number, which will allow you to add Trial Advocacy to your schedule.

Trial Teams compete in national competitions against other top tier trial schools. Trial Team meets various evenings during the week (to the schedule of your coaches and you -- we typically ask you to have a couple evenings available for practices) and at least one weekend day during competition season; practice start dates depend on competitions. For competitions in early February, practices can start in December. For later competitions, the practices do not start until February.

In Spring 2023 there will be an OPTIONAL tethered 3-credit class called Advanced Trial Skills that I teach (Wednesdays, 900 am - 1200 pm) focusing on each Trial Team problem with intensive evidence and substantive law practice that relate to your trial team problems -- depending on enrollment, this course likely will be open *only* to trial team students. This will be extra experience and practice for you!

You will be notified by email if you made a trial team. Please note that we have a lot more students wanting to participate than spaces on teams -- if you do not make a team this semester, we strongly encourage you to try out again at the end of the Spring semester for a Fall team! If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call or email.
