Opportunity to Present Asia-related Research

Post by Student Affairs »

Information provided by Bruce Acker, Assistant Director of the Asia Research Institute, UB's Office of International Education.

The Asia Research Institute is organizing a student poster session as part of our inaugural conference in April. The poster session will be held on April 21 during an extended lunch session. This will be an excellent opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to present their Asia-related research and engage with scholars from UB and around the country who are participating in the ARI inaugural conference.

Here is some information that students should know about the posters:

1. Posters should be related in some way to research and writing about Asia, broadly defined, Asian Americans, or other Asian diaspora communities.
2. All posters will be digitally produced in two dimensions. The Asia Research Institute will arrange and pay for printing.
3. The dimensions of the poster should be set to 2 feet x 3 feet in whatever program you are using.
4. Microsoft Word, which is probably the easiest program to use, only allows dimensions up to 22 inches, so you will need to set the dimensions at 12” x 18” or something else proportional to get the 2’ x 3’ size.
5. Posters do not need to be complicated. Too much information on a poster can make it difficult to digest.
6. Quotes or images (including those with a Creative Commons license) should be cited.
7. Posters can be based on research and writing for courses, dissertations, papers submitted for publication, or other academic purposes.
8. Students are encouraged to consult with their professor or dissertation advisor about the content of their poster.
9. Students should submit a PDF or JPG of their proposed poster to asiainstitute@buffalo.edu by April 10, 2023.
10. Faculty or students who have questions can contact Bruce Acker (716.645-2580 or backer@buffalo.edu).
