AALS Summer Speed Share Sessions: “Straight From the Source: Students Speak on What REALLY Promotes Balance & Well-Being

A group of law professors and law administrators is looking for students who are willing to share 5-minute presentations from law students about “What REALLY Promotes Balance & Well-Being in Legal Education” as a part of a zoom series on the topic. For further details on the Association of American Law Schools Section on Balance & Well-Being in Legal Education (the Balance Section):

The Balance Section seeks to investigate, discover, and inspire those practices that support the well-being of law students, lawyers, and judges. The Balance Section is committed to exploring the importance of health, compassion, integrity, and ethics to the effective study and practice of law. The Section promotes continual re-examination of pedagogical practices, program content, and institutional priorities to promote the long-term best interests of law students and the constituencies they will serve.

The Balance Section knows that some of the best ideas come from law students. So this summer we are hosting a Speed Share Series via zoom. At each session we will feature 4-5 student presentations and will conclude with a brief Q&A with the student presenters.

We are soliciting abstracts from law student changemakers (a.k.a. YOU!). Please see the call for proposals Suggested topics include (by are not limited to) answers to the following questions:

• Are you a law student changemaker with a vision for what the future of legal education could look like and/or concrete ideas for how legal education could better support law student balance and well-being? What do you want faculty and administrators to know?
• Have you experienced innovative programming or initiatives tailored to addressing wellbeing in legal education? Do you want to share this experience with others? Tell us more.
• What success story can you share about your school mitigating barriers or stigma related to law student mental health, including substance use disorders?
• What has your school done to support your well-being that you could share for the benefit of other students, professors, and administrators?

Submit your short (less than 300 words) summaries/abstracts here. Abstracts are due April 14, 2023. Presentations to take place June-July 2023 (exact dates and times TBD based on presenter availability).
