Register for the July 2023 NY Bar Exam

Post by Academic Success »

The registration period for the July 2023 NY Bar Examination runs from April 1 through April 30. Late registration is not allowed, so if you are planning to take the Uniform Bar Examination in New York this summer, be sure to register before the end of the day on April 30.

If you are unfamiliar with all the details involved in registering to take the bar exam in New York, you can watch this video for a detailed explanation of all the details you should be aware of:
https://buffalo.box.com/s/yiulrqo1iyhwf ... rj6saozi5r

You need to be logged into UBBox to access and watch this video. You can also find additional details about signing up for and taking the NY bar exam in this document: https://www.nybarexam.org/TheBar/NYBarE ... nGuide.pdf

In order to register to take the NY Bar, you must have a NY Board of Law Examiners (BOLE) account, and in order to create a BOLE account, you must have an National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE) account. If you have registered for the MPRE, then you have already created an NCBE account; you will need your NCBE ID number to create your BOLE account.

If you do not already have an NCBE account, go here to create one: https://auth.ncbex.org/login
If you do not already have a BOLE account, go here to create one: https://portal.nybarexam.org/

Once you have your BOLE account, starting on April 1, you will find a live link to the bar exam registration form at https://portal.nybarexam.org/ . That link will only go live on April 1 and will disappear at the end of the day on April 30. In order to register, you will need to be able to pay the registration fee of $250 ($750 for LL.M. students) online using a Visa or MasterCard credit card. Other credit cards (e.g., Discover or American Express) will not be accepted. If you have a debit card with a Visa or MasterCard logo that can also serve as a credit card, that will be accepted, but otherwise debit cards will not work. No other methods of payment, such as checks, bank transfers, or PayPal, will be accepted.

At the time you sign up to take the July 2023 NY bar exam, you will be given the option to choose to take the essay portion of the exam on your laptop computer. If you are even considering using your laptop, you should select this option at the time you register. It is possible, but much more difficult, to select this option later, and under no circumstances can you select the option after April 30. In contrast, if you initially select the laptop option and later change your mind and decide not to use your laptop, you can easily opt out later.

Finally, if you are going to apply for testing accommodations under the ADA, please be aware that your application for accommodations must also be (separately) submitted by April 30. Information about applying for ADA accommodations can be found here: https://www.nybarexam.org/ADA/ADA.htm
