Late yesterday the NY Board of Law Examiners announced a modification to its previously announced plans for the application process for the September NY bar exam. It appears that the previously announced application period of May 5 to May 30 is being split into separate portions.
As graduating NY law school students, you must apply during the initial application period between May 5 and May 15. This initial application period will only be open to graduates of NY law schools, and those who will graduate from NY law schools this spring, and BOLE aims to seat those from this cohort before considering any other applicants. The BOLE announcement states that no priority will be given by date to those who apply during this initial application period. Nevertheless, given the unpredictability of this September bar administration process, we strongly recommend that students plan to apply as soon as possible after the initial application period opens at midnight on the morning of May 5.
