2Ls & 3Ls--Registration Opens Soon for the Desmond Moot Court Competition!

2Ls & 3Ls are invited to participate in UB's interschool moot court competition in November. The 2020 Desmond Competition involves a pending case before the U.S. Supreme Court, raising issues of First Amendment free speech and privacy rights. Registration runs from Sept. 18 to Sept. 24 at 5pm.

You can enter as a team of two, or as a single competitor. Competitors will research and write a brief with a teammate. Depending on the number of entries, oral argument will be conducted in either two person teams or as individuals. If you are a single competitor, you will be assigned a partner for at least the brief writing stage. Awards are presented to the winning team, to the writers of the best brief, and more!

Completing the Desmond Competition makes you eligible to serve on the Buffalo Moot Court Board and eligible for consideration on one of UB’s national moot court teams. It is invaluable experience in oral and written argument. It satisfies one of the criteria for earning a Certificate in Advocacy, provides you with a writing sample and a resume credential, and will not prevent you from taking Appellate Advocacy next year!
