When you vote you will be asked whether the fees should be mandatory or voluntary? But what does this mean?
Voting mandatory
Voting mandatory means that you want to the Student Activity Fee, and all services and offerings that come with it automatically billed to your account. If the majority of students vote mandatory:
- The fee, which goes directly to your student government, will be collected
- The student government will have funds in order to continue to provide services, activities, club funds, insurances, salaries, reimbursements, scholarships, and other student government funded programs for the next two years
- These services include funding for other clubs under the SBA umbrella, publication of law journals, social events like the Halloween party and Barrister's Ball, graduation cords, the list goes on and on and on....
Voting voluntary
Voting voluntary means that you do not want the Student Activity Fee to be billed automatically. If the majority of students vote voluntary:
- The fee, which goes directly to your student government, will not be collected
- The student government will not have incoming funds for the next two years, or until the referendum vote is run again and voted mandatory, at the next constituent-wide election
- Services, activities, club funds, insurances, salaries, reimbursements, scholarships, and other student government funded programs will either have to rely on any reserved funds or be cut
