POSITION AVAILABLE: Paid Student Interns for Landlord Tenant Court
OVERVIEW: For nearly 60 years, Legal Services of Long Island previously (Nassau Suffolk Law Services), has been providing free, high-quality legal counsel in civil matters when basic human needs are at stake including: eviction and foreclosure prevention, income maintenance, disability, elder law, healthcare, consumer fraud and more. As the only provider of comprehensive civil legal services on Long Island, our services support thousands of poor and low-income families and individuals who cannot afford an attorney. With the gap separating those who can and cannot afford legal representation widening each day, we work to ensure that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay. Legal Services of Long Island has a staff of over one hundred people situated in three offices across Long Island.
OFFICE LOCATION: Nassau (Hempstead Office) and Suffolk County (Islandia and Riverhead Offices).
Legal Services of Long Island is currently accepting applications on an ongoing basis. The Summer 2026 paid legal internship will run from June 2026 until August 2026. The Summer Intern is required to commit a minimum of twenty (20) hours per week during regular business hours. The internship may be remote, in office, or a combination of both dependent upon office policy at the time of the internship.
DESCRIPTION: We are looking for multiple law students to work with an active landlord tenant project representing low-income tenants in all Suffolk and Nassau courts. Research, writing and court appearances may all be involved. Extensive client contact including intake, interviewing and follow-up. Commitment to social justice a plus.
Salary: $20 an hour.
