Diversity Pipeline Instructor
Legal Outreach is seeking dynamic and motivated law students from the University at Buffalo School of Law to teach interactive and fun law lessons to 8th graders in middle schools across the city. Law students, as Diversity Pipeline Instructors, will be paid to teach a lesson based on The Queen vs. Dudley & Stephens to one or more classes. Instructors will turn the classroom into a courtroom, present the students with the fact pattern, and lead the students through a discussion where they have to determine if the surviving men should be convicted of murder. The lesson is designed to inspire students to think about legal careers and motivate them to pursue excellence at high school and beyond.
Instructors receive $25 per hour for training, travel, presentations, and follow-up work. Instructors must attend a four-hour training and be able to commit up to 20 hours during the semester based on scheduling with participating middle schools. The role requires energy and enthusiasm in front of a classroom and willingness to stimulate debate.

Start date: February, 2019
Hours: Mandatory 4 hours of training; thereafter, 20-25 hours of teaching (or more if schedule allows) spread out between February 1 –
April 18. Actual instructional times will depend on the schedule of the law student and middle school teachers.
Wage: $25 per hour
Location: University at Buffalo School of Law / Middle Schools in and around Buffalo
Principal Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinating with the Diversity Pipeline Instructors will:
● Liaise with local middle schools to arrange presentations;
● Lead interactive, dynamic law lessons at local middle schools;
● Communicate with students and families about benefits of a legal career and provide information about the LSAC Discover Law program and website.
Requirements:
● Candidates must be studying for a JD or LLM at [law school].
● Candidate must be passionate about advancing educational opportunities for underserved and traditionally underrepresented communities.
