Partial Transcript: Over the years, my connection with the Law School has been as a teacher of trial technique and I've been a Moot court judge for most of the last twenty years. I enjoy sharing with the students what I know as a trial attorney and Appellate lawyer for many years. I have visited many law schools to speak and interact with students; it's a joy to see the high caliber of students we have at UB. They're always well prepared for Moot Court sessions, for the trial technique classes, and when I lecture for classes their questions are thoughtful and provocative. I know UB's level of law school training is right up there with all the best schools in the country. It's nice to see the progress UB Law School has contributed to the legal fabric here in Buffalo and across the country.

Partial Transcript: The practice of law has changed dramatically over the last 25 years that I've practiced. When we started, the research tools weren't as comprehensive or quick as they are now. There weren't computers and PC's to process words, to research. We couldn't sit in the courtroom and be able to pull up your library or an entire file and have it at your fingertips. It was more of a grunt and groan process to research and put things together. But there's a bad part to it as well. The calculators and computers takes away from the innate ability to process information. Also, the lawyers coming to our firm now are more interested in how much money they're going to make as opposed to the personal reward for being a lawyer and practicing the profession. It's sad because it's not all about dollars. The satisfaction of doing a good job, an ethical job, an honest job should be the paramount goal.

Partial Transcript: It's interesting when you look at people contributing to the community, we see corporate individuals or large, rich corporations, or ordinary people with ordinary jobs. What we're missing are the professional in the middle, doctors, lawyers, etc. who are not contributing to our community: Children's Hospital, religious institutions, or homeless projects. Rarely do lawyers show up for the Variety Club Telethon making a mark. Doctors, lawyers, accountants need to help those who need help. By giving your time you are using you skills for other parallel but important purposes.

Partial Transcript: Buffalo is a unique legal community. If you look at the major court-of-appeals decisions, and in the Appellate divisions, and even the U.S. Supreme Court, you'll find a rich tradition of Buffalo lawyers handling those cases. Richard Lipsitz, a partner of mine for years, had a famous case before the U.S. Supreme Court, Keyishian vs Board of Regents, a ground-breaking case that dealt with loyalty oaths during the McCarthy era. Harold Boreanaz, a criminal defense lawyer, and Robert Murphy, an alumnus of UB Law, was a tremendous trial lawyer. I've practiced with Alan Dershowitz, F. Lee Bailey, Barry Scheck, from the O.J. Simpson case, is a professor at Yeshiva University. Lawyers from this area have been at the forefront of many important cases across the country. I practice regularly in Los Angeles where we are very well known. Buffalo is definitely on the legal map all over the country.
