00:00:00 - Why UB Law and early career

Play segment

Partial Transcript: I was attracted to UB Law School because I was accepted there and it was the only school I applied to. The Eagle Street location was across the street from most of the courts. On breaks between classes we would visit the courts. In those days, the mid-'60s, there were some great trial lawyers and many interesting cases we could learn first hand how to do it. I graduated in 1967 and worked for Serotte & Serotte which became Serotte Hoffman Haley & Green. I was elected to the Buffalo City Court after being appointed in 1973 and elected to the Supreme Court in 1978 until Gov Cuomo appointed me in 1983 to the Appellate Division which sits in Rochester. I've been on the Appellate Division for 24 years.

Partial Transcript: There is presently one other African American, sitting in NYC, on the Appellate Division. Just recently an African American was appointed to the Court of Appeals in Albany. So there are three, total. UB Law School is a good law school with a good reputation and, for the money, it is a real bargain!
