Segment Synopsis: Small talk. Background, 6 siblings, started in a trailer in the shadow of Bethlehem Steel. Lots of love and support, social consciousness and giving back. Didn't know any lawyers growing up. 8th grade learned about government, went to Washington decided she wanted to be a lawyer, middle school social studies teacher, Mr. James, began working on campaigns. Political climate had profound impact her decision to go to law school. Went to law school in Washington and got out in the community. Worked NYS Assembly office, covering meetings on Capital Hill. Always focused on public service. Would not have been hired by Daniel Patrick Moynihan without law degree. Law degree opens doors. Summers worked for big law firms. Greatest professional achievement: saving jobs at Niagara Falls air base while in Congress, town council work impact on her community. Very fortunate to have opportunities come her way. Professional experience. Opportunities to serve at different levels, overcoming mental barrier as women. Have guts and drive to move forward. 14 years on Town Council, County Clerk, Congress, serving the State of NY is amazing. Finding her own way to serve. Family traditions of service.

Family. Relationship with UB School of Law. Strength of UB Law, pulling people in from all over to WNY. Advice? Serve others in the community. Advice for political career? Be tough. Requires sacrifices. Needs good people to get off sidelines. She is a daredevil, need for speed, adrenaline rush. Driven and demanding of excellence, passionate, empathetic, can see both sides of an issue. Serving as Lt. Governor is an amazing chance to work with brilliant people and make differences in our communities. Analytical. The art of government is compromise.
