Segment Synopsis: UB Law has experienced some of the most dramatic changes of any law school. Began as a division for legal training by WNY lawyers with little staff. In 1940's Frank Shea takes over Deanship to put school on broader academic footing. Attracts young lawyers working for gov't in Washington. Four go on to Harvard Law as faculty: Mark DeWolfe Howe, David Reiseman, Ernest Brown. 1st phase of new law school. What are some of the more significant changes at UB law and how have they influence life at UB law and the nature of legal education provided? New resources available, rapid expansion in faculty and students. Law school had a built in susceptibility to change in response to changing socio-economic conditions. High academic and professional standards set by original Harvard group remains in law school but remains flexible to meet demands of next century. Review roles at UB law? taught variety of courses, was Dean 1953-64 and served on a variety of committees. Strong commitment of faculty to school. Liked teaching in Public law--constitutional law, administrative, State and local government.
