Segment Synopsis: Introduction, went to Notre Dame. Background only child, mother was registered nurse and taught at Bellview, father worked at Pan Am in in-flight catering at JFK. 1st lawyer in family. Wanted to be English Professor. Had no role model for law. Applied to UB Law, took a year off and sold insurance. Liked to argue, on debate and oratory team. Paid for school himself, SUNY Buffalo was affordable. Applied to several graduate English programs. School was located in frozen muddy field in Amherst. 2nd class to attend in Amherst. Dean was Headrick(?). Law Review and LR Editorial Board. Worked part-time while in school. Duff's socializing. Lasting friendships. Ken Manning and involvement in Law Alumni Association. Worked summers at the firm which became Cellino and Barnes. Went to Rochester after law school to work for Harris, Beach, Wilcox Rubin & Levey. Hirsch & Burke, P.C., 1977-1983 after that, then Saperston and Day until moving back to Buffalo to set up office.

Segment Synopsis: Professional achievement was mentoring the president of Minority Bar Association, Stephanie Saunders. Professional opportunities in litigation. Many alumni in public service.How he got into his area of law. Doesn't like to tell people he's a lawyer. "Meet people where they are at." He and dad would go to bar to do jury research. Litigators have sharp skills. Work/Life balance then and now. Advice? Choose carefully what to dedicate time to. Find firms that support public service and pro bono work. Do over? A lot of things he could have done. Wonders about other paths. Would like to teach more. He talks a lot. Pretty transparent. Didn't like law school. Ken Manning got him into UB Law Alumni and the involvement has changed his views. Dean's Advisory Council. Very fond of UB Law School now. Campus has changed. Diverse faculty and students.
