On Mike Telesca: Honored to speak for dear friend and colleague about his receiving this most prestigious award. The prestige of the Jaeckle award, the highest award UB Law School and Alumni Association can bestow. Recognizing previous winners. Telesca's selection an excellent choice. Perceptions of him as a colleague and friend, and getting to know him. Has been a mentor and gives himself to everyone. On Telesca: Shortly after Arcara became Judge, Telesca became Chief Judge for 7 years. Possesses great intellect, passion for law, and good judgment. Source of wisdom for other judges. On Telesca: His plan to eliminate back log on social security cases and prisoner cases. Volunteered to take on additional cases. Gets things done. On Telesca: Always returns from visiting him in Rochester with fresh bread, baked goods, sandwiches, wine, fruit, and fresh vegetables. Went to a restaurant with him and he knew everyone in there. Segment Synopsis: To Telesca: Old saying, "You are known by the company you keep." Presents Hon. Michael A. Telesca, Class of 1955, with the Edwin F. Jaeckle Award, the highest award from UB Law School. Commends career and honor. Hon. Michael Telesca gives thanks to the UB Law school, his professors, family, and colleagues, where he is today. Also thanks President Reagan for his nomination to US District Court. Explains that law school was an alternative to the Marines and the Korean War. Thanks to fellow alumni, current and former law clerks, Acappellants and for kind remarks and award. Thanks UB Law school for acceptance in April 1952. Alternative was to join Marines amidst Korean War. Thanks professors in the period between 1952-1955. Study groups emerged and friendships fostered. Grateful to illiterate immigrant parents, support and faith in American dream and thanks his wife. Grateful to President Ronald Reagan for nomination to US District Court. Reagan's statement about courage of the patriot. Luncheon meeting with Al Mugal and Frank Raichle, premier attorney. Quote from Raichle about constitution. Grateful for privilege to serve on federal bench in New York. Sworn in 24 years ago. Increase in cases presents challenges. On his colleagues and other judges.
