My name is Chasity Boyce. I’m one of the co-founders of the Diverse Attorney Pipeline Program (DAPP), and I’m writing to invite 1L students to apply for our third annual DAPP Direct job placement fair, the first national job placement fair for first-year women of color law students run by women of color in-house counsel. DAPP Direct will be held in Atlanta, Georgia on February 9 – 10, 2020. The application is currently open; please see below.
---------------
The DAPP Direct Job Placement Fair will give 1L law students the opportunity to interview for an eight to ten-week paid internship with a law firm and/or corporation during the summer of 2020. Women of color in-house counsel will conduct interviews at the fair on behalf of both law firms and corporations. The students who receive internships will also attend our client-readiness boot camp in Dallas, Texas where they will participate in seminars, taught by women of color attorneys, on navigating their summer internships, understanding law firm and in-house cultures, and how to stand out amongst their fellow interns. Students also receive mentors and professional networking opportunities through DAPP over the course of their summer internships. Applications are due November 17, 2019.
Selected students must be available to participate in first-round Skype interviews during winter break. A select group of students will then be invited to attend the job fair in Atlanta, Georgia on February 9 – 10, 2019. Monetary assistance is available to ease students’ financial burden of traveling to the job fair. Interviews will take place on February 10, 2020. Anticipated placements will be in a variety of markets, including but not limited to New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Dallas. Students will receive final job offers no later than March 2020. Selected students must attend the client-readiness boot camp in May 2020 before beginning their summer placements.
Over 70% of the women of color law students who have attended the DAPP Direct Job Placement Fair have received paid placements for the summer following their first year of law school.
Previous participating firms include: Axilon Law; Baker Botts; Baker McKenzie; Baker, Sterchi, Cowden & Rice; Barnes & Thornburg; Baylor Evnen; Bowman and Brooke; Brown & James PC; Butt Thornton & Baehr; Chapman Spingola; Clark Hill Strasburger; Clifford Chance; Frantz Ward; Gibson Dunn; Gibson, McAskill & Crosby; Hall & Evans; Haynes & Boone; Husch Blackwell; Jackson Walker; Kilpatrick Townsend; Lewis Thomason; Locke Lord; Morrison Mahoney; Naman Howell; Nixon Peabody; Polsinelli; Saul, Ewing, Arnstein and Lehr; Sidley Austin; Vinson & Elkins and Winston & Strawn.
