3:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. (EDT) | via Zoom

Join us as we discuss the ways in which law and race intersect in the trial of Derek Chauvin. The topics to be discussed include:
• whether Chauvin's use of force was justified;
• the defense's claim that Chauvin's conduct was not the actual cause of Floyd's death;
• the distinctions between the different homicide offenses that Chauvin was charged with; and
• the procedural obstacles that make it particularly difficult to secure convictions when the defendant is a cop and the victim is a black man.

Our Speakers include:

Guyora Binder
SUNY Distinguished Professor and Hodgson Russ Faculty Scholar
Vice Dean for Research and Faculty Development
University at Buffalo School of Law

Luis E. Chiesa
Professor, Vice Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion
Director of the Buffalo Criminal Law Center
University at Buffalo School of Law
