Craig Mokhiber is an international human rights lawyer and former senior United Nations official. A UB Law alumnus and Niagara Falls native, Mokhiber has spent four decades in the international human rights movement, including more than thirty years at the United Nations. He is the former Director of the New York Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) and served as the UN’s Senior Human Rights Advisor in Palestine and in Afghanistan. He led the team of human rights specialists attached to the High Level Mission on Darfur, headed the Rule of Law and Democracy Unit, served as Chief of the Development and Economic and Social Issues Branch at OHCHR Headquarters, and undertook dozens of human rights missions in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America, and Europe. Mokhiber will explore the current situation in Palestine and its implications for the global system governing the full spectrum of human rights, from the right to health, food, water, and education, to the prohibition of war crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide.
