The New York State Police has proudly served the citizens of New York since its establishment in 1917. Our enduring mission—to serve, protect, and defend the people of New York—while upholding the rights and dignity of all individuals, remains at the core of our operations. We are guided by the principles of integrity, respect, service, and leadership, which form the foundation upon which we continue to build our commitment to excellence in law enforcement.
As a New York State Trooper, your responsibilities will vary widely, encompassing traditional patrol duties as well as highly specialized investigations. The role is dynamic and requires a dedication to public service, making it a rewarding career path for those who wish to make a significant impact within their communities.
We are proud to be an Equal Opportunity Employer, committed to cultivating a diverse workforce that reflects the rich tapestry of the communities we serve. To facilitate this commitment, we are currently accepting applications for our upcoming examination, which can be accessed through joinstatepolice.ny.gov. The window for signing up will remain open until next July.
Candidates who successfully pass the exam will proceed through a series of evaluations, including a physical ability test, psychological examination, and comprehensive background investigation. Upon completion of these assessments, selected recruits will enter our esteemed 6-month training academy, where they will receive competitive compensation of approximately $60,000. Following one year of dedicated service, troopers can expect their salary to increase to $98,300.
If you have any questions about the application process or would like further information regarding joining the New York State Police, please do not hesitate to reach out via email at Arecruit@troopers.ny.gov or phone 585-344-6260. We look forward to welcoming motivated individuals who share our commitment to serving and protecting the great state of New York.
