The Pro Bono Scholars Program is a New York State Court program run by the Law School which enables you to take the February Bar Exam during your 3L spring semester and then spend twelve (12) weeks working in a legal services placement full time as a student attorney.

• Would you like to spend the spring 2026 semester working in the public interest?

• Are you interested in gaining practical skills training while you assist people who could not otherwise afford legal representation?

• Would being a "practice-ready" law graduate and expedited admission to the New York bar help you launch your legal career?

If you response to any of these questions is “yes,” then you may be interested in applying to participate in the Pro Bono Scholars Program

The Pro Bono Scholars Program is a program of the New York State Courts. Students are selected by the School of Law and approved by the Court for the Program. Pro Bono Scholars take the New York bar examination early, in February rather than in July 2026. You then work full time in a legal services placement in your area of interest for the following twelve (12) weeks. Placements are available outside Buffalo, but you may only take the New York bar exam. You also attend a weekly seminar with your fellow UB Law Pro Bono Scholars. If you pass the February 2026 bar examination, you will be admitted to practice as an attorney in June 2026.
