Wellness Events

Attached is our October/November Stress Reduction Calendar of events to share with the students you work with. The calendar has information about our free weekly yoga classes, drop-in smoking/vaping quit clinic, and meditation group. I also shared individual slides for the following upcoming special events:

• Monday, 10/11 Coming Out Day yoga event--co-sponsored with, and being hosted in, the IDC (SU 240) from 5:30-6:30pm. This event is for students who identify as LGBTQ+, as well as allies, to celebrate national Coming Out Week. All students are welcome and invited. It is a gentle yoga practice and no yoga experience is necessary.

• Wednesday, 11/3 Monthly Walking Group with Lily the Dog--from 4-5pm, meeting in front of the Student Union. Step outside and enjoy a self-care break with Lily, the therapy dog. Boost your energy, improve your mood and connect with other students while you explore new areas of campus. Snacks and free stress relief giveaways provided. Co-sponsored by Active Minds SA Club.

• Friday, 11/5 Mindfulness Retreat—from 1-4pm in 228 Student Union. This is a program to slow down your busy, thinking mind. The theme for this semester’s retreat will focus on gratitude. The retreat includes mindfulness skill building, meditation instruction and practice time, yoga, snacks and plenty of quiet time. All experience levels welcome. If possible, please register for this event so we know how much food to bring. • Wed, 11/10 Chill Out Stress Relief Event—from 11:30am – 1:30pm in the Student Union lobby and 145 rooms. At the end of each semester Counseling Services, Health Services, Health Promotion and the undergraduate Student Association co-sponsor the Chill Out event to help students find healthier ways to relax and take care of themselves during Finals. The event includes: dog therapy, mindfulness practice, coloring, free giveaways and more. Chance to win raffle prizes of electric Shiatsu Neck/Back Massager, Tim Hortons gift card and more.
