Hurwitz Fine is seeking a 1L or 2L student who would be interested in applying to the firm’s Diversity Clerkship Program. Hurwitz Fine’s Diversity Clerkship Program is intended to provide a meaningful and hands-on private practice experience for law students from backgrounds historically underrepresented in the legal profession. This is a paid, summer position in Buffalo, NY. Each law clerk will receive one-on-one mentoring from firm attorneys, be exposed to the firm’s numerous practice areas, and will develop a portfolio of tangible work product for use in the hiring process. In addition to summer pay, the law clerk will also receive a $1,000 Scholarship.
On a day-to-day basis, law clerks support the firm’s attorneys with a variety of tasks, including research and writing projects and case preparation. The firm will also provide meaningful opportunities to learn about the practice of law, to connect with local attorneys and the judiciary, and to publish legal articles on topics of interest. Clerks are given opportunities to meet lawyers and work on projects in each of the departments. They also organize a trip to federal court, lunch with a judge, and a lunch and learn series every summer. The clerks have the opportunity to attend depositions, go to court, attend meetings with clients, and to network.
Please see the Diversity Clerkship Program attachment for further information. To apply, please submit a resume, transcript, writing sample, and cover letter to amm@hurwitzfine.com. To be considered for the Diversity Scholarship please provide a brief statement (500 words or less) discussing your commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession, diverse life experiences you have had that demonstrate your ability to persevere, and/or how your unique experiences will contribute to our practice of law.
