NLS is a not-for-profit public interest firm providing free civil legal services to primarily low-income individuals and families in Western New York. NLS is a part of the Education Debt Consumer Assistance Program (EDCAP) that was created to help New Yorkers navigate the student loan repayment system and maintain their financial health. With EDCAP funding, they accomplish their mission by providing direct counseling services, conducting workshops, presentations and implementing outreach and educational campaigns on relevant student debt topics.

NLS offers free legal support to those who are burdened by student loan debt as they can help you to:
• Determine the best repayment plan,
• Access loan forgiveness,
• Apply for consideration, deferment, and forbearance,
• Get out of default to prevent wage garnishments, social security offsets, tax intercepts, and
• Mediate issues with loan services and lenders.
