Local Leader Speaker Series March 4th & April 1st

Post by Undergraduate Law BA »

Philosophy, Politics and Economics program is hosting a speaker series this spring. With generous support from the Templeton Foundation, they are happy to continue our "Local Leader Speaker Series" that you are all invited to attend and to tell your students about.

This semester, they have the following two talks scheduled:

1) BootSector: https://joinbootsector.com/

Tuesday, March 4th, 5pm to 6.30pm in Park Hall 141

BootSector’s mission is to empower, educate, and support the next generation of local entrepreneurs and startup leaders. BootSector provides financial grants to community organizers and handles payment processing, tickets, insurance, donations, and marketing support for your startup and entrepreneurial events. Join us to hear Founder and Executive Director Jordan Walbesser talk about guiding the organization from its start to its current form.

2) International Institute of Buffalo: https://iibuffalo.org/

Tuesday, April 1st, 5pm to 6.30pm in Capen 305 (Silverman Library)

For over 100 years, the International Institute of Buffalo has welcomed foreign-born families and individuals and supported their journey to a new future in our community, regardless of race or religion. Since September 2021, Executive Director Jennifer Rizzo-Choi has successfully led the organization as major humanitarian crises, including those in Ukraine and Afghanistan, have driven more clients to the organization than ever before. Join us to hear her talk about the history and the future of the organization.

The goal of the series is to invite representatives of civic organizations in Buffalo to talk about their on-the-ground experience, particularly as it pertains to building diverse and inclusive spaces in WNY. This will allow our students, especially students interested in the intersection of philosophy, politics, and economics, to learn from experienced local leaders about building a sustainable organization that positively affects the lives of community members.
