DEADLINE: March 31 -- for July 2026 NY Bar Exam

Post by Academic Success »

If you are planning to take the bar examination in New York in July 2026, you must complete your exam registration no later than March 31. New York State does not make any provisions for late registration, so if you miss this deadline, you will not be able to take the exam here until February 2027.

All the information you need about bar exam registration is on the website of the New York Board of Law Examiners (BOLE): https://nybarexam.org . A few quick points to be aware of:
  • In order to register for the bar exam, you must create an account with BOLE (click on "Create BOLE Account" at https://portal.nybarexam.org/ ).
  • In order to create an account with BOLE, you must first create an account with the National Conference of Bar Examiners (NCBE). If you have taken the MPRE, you have already created your account with BOLE. If you have not created an account, you can do so by clicking on "Create an account" at https://auth.ncbex.org/login .
  • The registration fee is $250 for J.D. students and $750 for LL.M. students, and it can only be paid with a Visa or MasterCard credit card.
  • If you would like to use your laptop, or if you are not sure but are at least considering it, then select the laptop program when you register. You can always opt out at a later date if you decide you would prefer to write your essays by hand, but once you opt out, you can never opt back in again. So keep your options open as long as you can until you are sure of your decision by saying "yes".
